Paola Barrientos holds an Undergraduate Degree in Economics from the Bolivian Catholic University.

She worked as manager in the Centro de Investigación y Asesoramiento Social y Económico (Social and Economic Research and Consulting Center). She also held positions as archive assistant a the Centro de la Mujer Gregoria Apaza (Gregoria Apaza Women Center) and as survey assistant in the Programa Nacional de Vigilancia y Control de la Malaria (National Malaria Monitoring and Control Center). She was a participant in the annual Belgian AFS interchange program.

Her mother language is Spanish but she is fluent in English and Dutch. She also understands both French and Aymara. She is currently involved in research for the Program for the Promotion of the Education Reform in Latin America and the Caribbean (PREAL): ¿Is Public Education Spending in Bolivia Equitative?.

She is a member of the Opción Bolivia youth group .
